چکیده

In this article we present a new method of Rossby asymptotics for the equations of the atmosphere similar to the geostrophic asymptotics. We depart from the classical geostrophics (see J. G. Charney [5] and our previous article [29]) by considering an asymptotics valid for the whole atmosphere, not only in midlatitude regions, and by taking into account the spherical form of the earth. We obtain in this way a very simple global circulation model of the atmosphere for which the equations of motion for wind and temperature are linear evolution equations similar to the linear Stokes equations. Furthermore, the solutions are independent of longitude, and winds travel exactly to the east or to the west. In this mathematically oriented article, we do not discuss the physical significance of the model that we derive except for observing that this picture coincides in general terms with the classically averaged data obtained by experimental measurements. We also note that different global geostrophic asymptotics (called planetary geostrophic asymptotics) are considered elsewhere in the literature, for example, in J. Pedlosky [33]. In a less mathematically rigorous way, H. Lamb [21] observed that the only globally valid geostrophic flow that maintains a slow time scale is zonally symmetric (see the comments in N. Phillips [35] and an explicit derivation in H. Jeffreys [19]). c © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Evaluating the performance of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) in simulating temperature variable in Ahwaz and Abadan stations

Climate changes caused by global warming has presented challenges to human society. Studying the Changes of climate variables in the future decades by using output data’s of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) is a way of perusing climate fluctuation in a region. In this study, the focus is on the AOGCM proceeds in simulating of variable temperature in Ahwaz and Abadan stations. ...

Temperature simulation of southwestern Iran during (2015-2050) using data from the general air circulation model

In recent years, global warming and climate change have been associated with dire consequences for human societies. Changes in climate patterns can lead to severe floods, extreme heat and cold, more frequent droughts, and global warming. This increase in global warming has upset the Earthchr('39')s climate balance and caused widespread climate change in most parts of the world, known as climate...

Simulation of the effect of global warming on the mean and extreme events of some hydrochemical variables in Shandiz catchment basin Case study: The Case of the general circulation model CanESM2

Changes in the mean and the extreme values of hydroclimatic variables are two prominent features of the future climate. Therefore, simulating the climatic behavior of Shandiz catchment area, an important tourist area in the northeast of the country, will play an important role in identifying the climate condition and potential vulnerability of these areas in the coming decades of climate ch...

Global Climate and Ocean Circulation on an Aquaplanet Ocean–Atmosphere General Circulation Model

A low-resolution coupled ocean–atmosphere general circulation model (OAGCM) is used to study the characteristics of the large-scale ocean circulation and its climatic impacts in a series of global coupled aquaplanet experiments. Three configurations, designed to produce fundamentally different ocean circulation regimes, are considered. The first has no obstruction to zonal flow, the second cont...

Optimization of rice (Oryza sativa L.) and subsequent soybean (Glycine max L. Merr) cropping calendars under the climate change conditions using dynamical general circulation models (GCMs) and DSSAT crop model

Climate change and the global warming phenomenon is one of the main concerns of human societies. In this study, the impact of climate change on rice, as the main crop in Guilan province, Iran and soybean production as the second crop was investigated. To adapt to the negative impact of climate change in future, optimal crop calendars were indentified for different rice and soybean cultivars usi...
